Stefanie Cottrell

Stefanie Cottrell has been a band director in Broken Arrow since 2004, teaching at both the middle school and high school levels. She is currently a director at the Broken Arrow Freshman Academy. Prior to her tenure at Broken Arrow, Ms. Cottrell served in the McAlester, Collinsville and Union Public School systems in Oklahoma. She received her Bachelor of Music Education degree from the University of Tulsa and her Master of Music in Conducting degree from the American Band College at Southern Oregon University. She was drum major for the Nite Express Drum Corps in 1996. Ms. Cottrell is also a Broken Arrow High School graduate, performing in the BA Pride as a drum major and in concert ensembles as a horn player.

Ms. Cottrell’s ensembles have consistently garnered superior ratings at OSSAA events for their on stage and sight reading performances, earning Outstanding Achievement and Sweepstakes Awards for many of her ensembles over the past 25 years. Ms. Cottrell was honored as the 2004 Phi Beta Mu Young Bandmaster of the Year. She served as a staff member for the 2006 Bands of America Grand National Champion Pride of Broken Arrow Marching Band. She was also honored as Teacher of the Year for Oneta Ridge Middle School for the 2017-2018 school year.

Ms. Cottrell treasures her family - her husband, Brent, their daughter, Ashlyn, and their two dogs, Ruby and Rascal. She and Ashlyn enjoy playing horn duets together and performing in their church orchestra. The Cottrell family also loves traveling and spending time with friends and extended family.
